New light on eighteenth-century life: the original text
Mary Hardy gives us unique insight into many aspects of English country life in the eighteenth century. She wrote her diary every day for 36 years, totalling half a million words. We learn about the lives not only of those in her social circle but of the family's versatile workforce.
The Mary Hardy project has so far involved nearly 30 years of continuous research and writing. In addition to this four-volume edition of the diary a further four volumes of commentary and analysis will be published, as Mary Hardy and her World 1773-1809.
